Understanding the Frequencies of Relief AKA Coping

We all have our go-to coping mechanisms... those things we reach for when stress hits, emotions swirl, or life feels overwhelming.
And honestly, in certain circles, the usual suspects tend to pop up: sex, alcohol, a little weed, maybe some retail therapy. No shame in it. No judgment. But everything vibrates at a certain frequency, including the ways we choose to self-soothe.
The Frequency of Coping Mechanisms
Every action, thought, and habit holds a vibrational signature. Some frequencies uplift and expand us, while others ground, numb, or temporarily distract. It’s not about labeling anything as good or bad. It’s more so about recognizing what these vibrations do to our energy over time.
Let’s break this whole thing down!
Low-to-Mid Frequency Coping
(Not bad. Just different.)
Sex as Stress Relief: Acts of being intimate, when engaged consciously, can be powerful. However, using sex as a primary stress reliever? It can work momentarily, but if it's the main way to decompress, it may create dependency on external stimulation rather than internal regulation.
Alcohol or Substances: These usually cause a QUICK shift in mood, relaxation, or escape. But vibrationally, these tend to suppress emotional processing rather than resolve it. Over time, they create stagnation in energy flow.
Mindless Social Media Scrolling: Meee... It offers a temporary mental numbing, often leading to information overload, a tad bit anxious and comparison traps, which lower vibrational states.
Emotional Eating: Meeee (but getting better). This behavior provides comfort but can also create cycles of sluggishness and energy depletion.
All of these methods have a place. Sometimes you just want a glass of wine, an intimate moment, or a good Netflix binge. The key is asking: Is this actually resolving my stress, or just pausing it?
Higher Frequency Coping Mechanisms
(These regulate rather than numb.)
Sound & Frequency Work: Listening to high-vibrational frequencies (like those used in The Alexander Method®️ of Vibration Sound and Energy Therapy, crystal singing bowls or classical music) can shift emotions in real-time without suppression.
Breathwork & Meditation: Helps process stress at the root rather than just pausing it. Oxygenation of the body naturally alters vibrational states and does so quickly too!
Movement: Dance, yoga, or even a simple walk can move stagnant energy out of the system.
Creative Expression: Writing, painting, playing an instrument, etc... these raise frequency by engaging flow states and emotional release! Whew!
Intentional Silence & Stillness: Deep listening to the body’s needs rather than silencing them through external distractions. Silence can be your friend if you allow it in.
The Wiring of Stress & Release
What I’ve learned, especially in relationships, is that different people have different “gas pedals” and “brakes” when it comes to stress relief. Some people feel energized by physical connection (like sex), while others need solitude and quiet to regulate. Neither is wrong, just different. And if you and your partner are wired oppositely? That’s a whole conversation on balance and communication.
So What’s the Takeaway?
Coping is a spectrum. Some methods hit the surface; others go deeper. Some lower our frequency over time; others elevate. The key isn’t to demonize any of them, but to instead be mindful of the long-term vibrational effects. If what you’re reaching for gives you a moment of peace but leaves you feeling more depleted afterward, maybe it’s time to introduce some higher-frequency options into the mix.
No pressure. No guilt. Just awareness.
What’s your go-to coping mechanism? And how does it make you feel afterward? Let’s talk about it.

Really love this article. It is a great reminder to lean into higher vibrational coping mechanisms. You know I love your sound and frequency services already but on a day to day I definitely have opportunities to lean into practices that renew (yoga) rather than deplete (social media). Again, a great reminder.
Thank you Brandi! I appreciate you, always! 🤍
